How to transform your outdoor patio into an outdoor oasis?
Summer is finally approaching us and I am sure many of us are ready to get outdoors, to BBQ, travel and enjoy all that summer has to offer. But is your patio ready for the summer and the upcoming fourth of July holiday? Does your patio feel like another room or an outdoor oasis? Here are some tips and simple ways to create an outdoor oasis that you and your guest will love!
How to transform your outdoor patio into an outdoor oasis?
1) How to Decorate an Outdoor Space this Summer? Define the purpose of your design?
Is the outdoor space just for relaxation, entertaining, eating etc. This is the most important question to ask yourself. Will you be hosting or will you simply be having a cup of coffee on your balcony? Once you understand the purpose of your design then you can furnish it accordingly. If the outdoor space will be a multipurpose area, you need to identify this beforehand. How an area functions is the most important aspect to design. It has to function correctly in order to serve its purpose. The last thing you want to do is spend money designing an outdoor space that you will not utilize because it's not functional. Especially when it comes to outdoor furniture, because it is not cheap. Please keep this in mind before executing your outdoor oasis.
2) How to furnish your patio or outdoor space so it functions to your liking?
Once you decide what the purpose of the outdoor space is, you can select furniture that will accomplish this goal. If you have a balcony and want a place of relaxation, reading or just enjoying the outdoor breeze. There are beautiful outdoor day beds that can be used to accomplish this goal. If you would like a space to entertain, you may want to look into a sectional or outdoor sofa with additional seating to accommodate your guest. In this case, you want to layout your furniture where it's easy enough for everyone to stay engaged but enough walkable space that your guests don't trip off of one another. I know this is not something we may think about when designing an outdoor space but furniture layout is a key factor in design.
Remember, when you are in a hotel or outdoor Cabana, each furniture piece has a specific purpose. The Cabana's are usually set up with daybeds and each Cabana has some distance between the other. This is done purposely and the goal is to provide privacy and tranquility. Next time you take a trip or are in a resort, notice how furniture is laid out and the activities that are taking place in each area. This is done to accomplish a specific purpose.
3) How to add outdoor decor to your outdoor space.
This is the best part of design and it's the best way to transform your outdoor patio to an outdoor oasis! In the end there is no specific color you should use, the beauty about being outdoors is that you're surrounded by color, from the pastel blue sky to the different colored plants or trees that surround you. I would suggest choosing upt to two colors. A neutral color (white, tan, gray) and a vibrant colors (blue, green, pink, pastels are great too)
Utilize these colors in your planters, throw pillows, blankets, carpets, outdoor sculptures or figurines, umbrellas and anything else you use to decorate your outdoor patio. This will set your patio design apart from others and it will be a true reflection of your home and personality.
Have fun and design a space that reflects who you are! The colors you utilize in your design can say a lot about the person choosing them. This is a great way to connect with your guest or a great place to set the mood for your space.
