Themed Christmas Tree Tips

Green and white Christmas tree decor

Christmas decorating can be fun and overwhelming for some. Do you stick to the traditional decorations from past years or do you make changes every year? I love changing it up every year and switching my theme, I just think it allows me to be creative but my wallet may feel differently. The reason I like a theme is because I can incorporate it throughout the house and use the same colors for Thanksgiving dinner. It makes the home feel cohesive and allows each room to feel festive in its own unique way. There are multiple ways to achieve this and I listed a few below.

1) If you want to create a theme but find it difficult to accomplish this, focus on the one color you would like to incorporate throughout the house, My color this year is green and my theme is in the above vision board but it can be done with any color. Utilize the main color for larger ornaments and decor pieces so it can stand out and make a statement.

2) Choose two other colors that you would like to incorporate on the tree. I would suggest using at least one neutral color, like grey, white, beige, silver or gold . White is the chosen neutral color in the first two pictures above. The neutral color does not clash with your furniture and helps integrate the other colors in the space. It is also much easier to find more ornaments in these colors, which can help make the tree look full. You can also use one color in multiple shades (as listed in the last photo above) if you prefer to keep the theme simple but I prefer contrast, I prefer contrast in all my designs but that's just me.

3) Now that you have a theme for your tree, which is the biggest focal point in your design for the season, incorporate this throughout the house. This can be done with simple decor like, throw blankets, pillows, mantel decor, table setting decor and more. Even your Christmas wrapping paper can be themed out! I suggest using the main color for bigger items, like the throw blanket, table runner etc to keep it cohesive but a neutral color will work as well. Below is the table setting I believe will work best with this theme, using green as the primary color.

Good Luck and have fun!

Enjoy this holiday season and know that having a theme or not having one, can not take away from the purpose of the holidays! Embrace all of it, enjoy the process and do whatever your heart desires.
