Winter Blues: Design Tips to Boost Your Mood
Winter Transitional Decor
We are currently in the midst of winter and we still have some months to go before we can see the beautiful flowers bloom but that doesn't mean we can't embrace this season. Personally, I enjoy every season and it's transition into the next but winter is the longest season of all. I am anxiously waiting for the spring to change my decor and brighten up my space but why wait at all? I can begin making small changes during this transitional period and still embrace my home.
Let's start by removing any holiday decor from past seasons and start with a clean canvas. This will help you embrace this season and not be reminded of what has passed.
Brighten up your space
This can be done with a coat of paint that is neutral and welcoming or a simple change in drapery can go a long way. White blackout curtains can brighten up the space but still be winter friendly. Adding neutral colors to your decor can help with the transition into spring.
Lighten Up your space
During the winter season we experience shorter days and longer nights which means less natural light. Lighten up your space by adding smaller sources of light around your home by placing lamps or floor lamps in areas that are more dim. This will help you feel more alert and less sluggish throughout the day.
Adding a Mirror
Adding a mirror or mirrors in your room does not only give the illusion of a larger space which can help if you're feeling confined but it also helps reflect light. This allows the room to feel more bright and airy,
Adding texture
Adding textures that provide comfort and are welcoming, can help you during this cold winter season, A nice plush throw blanket or some soft velvet pillows can feel soothing and improve the overlook of the space.
Bring the outdoors in
For some of us our plants and trees are covered in snow or for others plants are not thriving during this season, so bring the outdoors in. Add some greenery to your space, this can be real or faux, either option allows you to feel connected to nature. There are so many benefits to adding plants to your home, it helps reduce stress and improves the air quality in your space. You can even add artwork that embodies nature or reminds you of the outdoors.
These small changes can go a long way and help us during the winter season but also allows us to embrace it. Life doesn't stop because winter is upon us. so go out, take a walk, play in the snow or become creative with things to do indoors.. During this down time, I like to reflect and prepare for the warm days ahead!
