Living with Purpose and Understanding the Journey

During this time of uncertainty and unfamiliarity, we may find ourselves questioning the purpose of it all. For me, these last two years have been a journey of finding myself and my purpose, which have left me feeling overwhelmed and uncertain. The world today is going through a tough time but inorder to keep moving forward I have to remind myself that there is a bigger purpose. At this time I may not know what the purpose is for the world as a whole but individually, I must seek my purpose.

Today I decided to wake up and try to do better than I did yesterday when I allowed myself to feel defeated and unmotivated. I listened to the "On Purpose" podcast hosted by Jay Shetty and his guest of honor was Lauren London. A woman who is known for her incredible career but most recently known for her deep loss of her partner. There were so many take-aways and gems that were provided from this conversation but the few that stuck out to me were Surrendering, healing and service.

Surrendering and letting go

She spoke about the idea she had for her life and how this vision was dismantled after losing her partner. I resigned with this because I believe we all experience loss, whether in a relationship, a career or the passing of a loved one and the idea of what could have been is destroyed. The truth is, that no one knows or truly prepares for loss and disappointment but we also have no control of it. Letting go of wanting to control the outcome of our future and surrendering this to the universe, provides great freedom but can be difficult. If we live everyday wanting to control our outcome, are we truly living? This is not to say that we can't dream, manifest or have visions but it also does not mean that we have any control over the outcome. Life will happen and it will continue to happen, none of us were prepared to live in a pandemic but here where are. Starting to learn to let go and let be, is something that is not easy for me but it's necessary for me to understand that I have no control over the outcome and in this I will find freedom.

Healing

In the conversation Lauren discusses her healing journey and the adjustments she had to make to move forward. She had to learn to flow with what life presented and protect her energy. I believe as we begin to let go, we can truly begin to heal because how can one heal holding on to control and pain? Some find healing in being spiritual, meditating or connecting with others. Regardless of the healing path you choose, it should be intentional and filled with purpose. These last two years I have been yearning to heal but still holding on to the pain, I have realized that I can not do both and I crave to heal but I must learn to set things free. Healing is a rebirth, spiritually, mentally and physically. When we are ready to heal, we should give it the attention it deserves and not be distracted by the outside noise.

Service

In the podcast, Lauren speaks about the service work she has done and how it has affected her healing journey. Through services and while grieving she found so much comfort in helping others. When we are able to stand with others to help them achieve a goal or provide for others, we understand that we are not alone. We are not alone in this journey, we are all seeking similar things and we can all be of service to one another in small and simple ways. As we come together our purpose becomes more significant and we are able to achieve or create a place where everyone is winning. In service, we are not in competition but instead we are working together for a greater purpose.
